Debby and Doug Erb established Landaff Creamery in 2008 with the intention of creating a high-quality value-added product from their milk. The building in which Doug's father operated his veterinary clinic was transformed into a small but efficient cheese-making room. The Erbs hope that this new venture will sustain their working landscape of Landaff for years to come.
Springvale Farm, nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, was founded in the 1950's by Doug's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frederick A. Erb. The farm grew to include land from several small farms in the area before Debby and Doug joined the operation in 1980.
By 1989 this new generation was able to purchase and continue with the business on their own. The couple has continued to improve their herd and facilities, and routinely earn top milk quality awards in their region. The Erbs grow much of their own feed and raise their own heifers, as well rotationally graze their registered holsteins on the pastures of their farm.
Landaff Creamery produces two cheeses, Landaff and Kinsman Ridge. Doug developed the recipe for these cheeses after time spent working with the Duckett's family in Somerset, England. Though inspired by international traditions, these cheeses are truly a reflection of the Erbs' personality and their mountainous agricultural landscape.
